Two-time grand slam champion Garbine Muguruza is on a mission in Melbourne after a 6-1 6-0 win over Marketa Vondrousova sealed her place in the Yarra Valley Classic final.

The Spaniard is one of the red-hot contenders for next week’s Australian Open having dismantled her opponents this week for the loss of 10 games.

Having already beaten Alison Van Uytvanck, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Sofia Kenin, the world number 15 went to work on Marketa Vondrousova.

The former Roland Garros finalist had very little to offer against Muguruza’s power and a 15 point break of serve in the second game, crushed Vondrousova’s hopes.

A solitary game in the fourth game of the first set was all that the Czech Republican could take from the match as Muguruza converted five of her eleven break points.

55 minutes was all it took for a clinical Muguruza to produce the statement win and advance to the Yarra Valley Classic final.

After the match the Spaniard praised her serve as she looks to build momentum before the first grand slam of the season, “I’m very happy for sure. I think I played well today,” Muguruza said in her on-court interview.

“My serve was working in the right moments and I felt like, since the beginning of the match, I could take control of the points.”

Next for the sizzling Muguruza is world number one Ash Barty in tomorrow’s final and she is relishing the challenge, “It’s always good to play the top players, especially the No.1 right now. We’ve had tough matches, so I’m expecting another battle.”
