Novak Djokovic announces his schedule for the 2021 season

Novak Djokovic has revelead his scheduled for the 2021 season, hoping that the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic will improve this year. The schedule is provisional and could change according to different circumstances due to the global pandemic. 

The World number 1 will start his 2021 season with the ATP Cup (1-5 February) and the Australian Open in Melbourne (8-21 February). He will be chasing his ninth Australian Open title and the second trophy in a row in Melbourne and his second consecutive ATP Cup. Last year he became the third man in history to win eight titles at a Grand Slam tournament. 

Next spring Djokovic will defend his title in Dubai (15 March) before travelling to Florida for the Miami Open (22 March). The Belgrade native player will play four clay tournaments in Monte-Carlo (12 April), Madrid Mutua Open (3 May), Rome Masters (10 May) and Roland Garros (24 May). Last year Djokovic set a new record winning his 36th Masters 1000 title in Rome and finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal in the Roland Garros final. 

During a busy summer season Djokovic will be chasing his sixth Wimbledon title (28 June). In 2019 Djokovic saved two match points to beat Roger Federer in the longest Wimbledon final after 4 hours and 55 minutes. 

Nole will bid for his first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo (the tennis tournament will start on 26 July). He will start his hard-court campaign on home soil in Cincinnati, where he defends his 2020 title. In 2020 he beat Milos Raonic in the final. Next September he will try to add a fourth title at the US Open after his previous three titles in 2011, 2015 and 2018. 

During the autumn he will part in Shanghai (11 October), Vienna (25 October), at the ATP Finals in Turin (15 November) and the Davis Cup in Madrid (22 November). 

Djokovic will pursue the goal to get closer to Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the race for the best ever players in Grand Slam history. Nadal and Federer are currently first with 20 Grand Slam trophies, while Djokovic is chasing in third place with 17 Major titles. During the 2020 season Djokovic equalled Pete Sampras’ record, finishing at the top of the ATP Ranking for the sixth time in history. The 31-year-old player will be chase the goal to equal Federer’s record of 310 weeks spenta t World number 1. Last year Novak played in nine tournaments and won four titles (Australian Open, Dubai, Western and Southern Open in New York and Rome).
