Dayana Yastremska revelead that was tested positive to Covid-19 and admitted that she could not train for two weeks.

“Two days after arriving in Dubai, my Covid-19 test came back positive. I went into self-isolation and didn’t train for two weeks. The symptms were very strange. It was bad. I fully recovered now and my focus is to go back training”, said Yastremska.

Yastremska won a WTA tournament in Adelaide last January, but she was not able to break into the top 20. She lost to Greetje Minnen in the first round in Linz.

Yastremska ended the year ranked world number 29. The Ukrainian rising star hopes to return to her best form in 2021. At the end of the season she split up with Sasha Bajin.

It is not clear if she will play in the WTA 500 tournament in Dubai next January. The delay of the Australian Open by three weeks will give her more time for the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2021 season.

Yastremska is the second-highest under 21 player behind Bianca Andreescu. The Ukrainian player won three WTA Tour titles in four final appearances.

Dayana was born on 15 May 2000 to Marina and Alexnder Yastremsky in Odessa, the third largest city in the Ukraine. She has sister Ivaanna, who is six years younger. Her father had been a volleyball player and also served on the Odessa City Council. When Yastremska was five years old, her grandfather Ivan introduced her to tennis. Yastremska finished unner-up in the 20-and under Junior Orange Bowl final in 2014 at the age of 13. She made a breakthrough in 2018 when she won her maiden WTA Tour title in HongKong and made her debut in the top 100 at the age of 18. She won two more WTA titles in 2019 in Hua Hin Championships in Thailand beating Garbine Muguruza in the quarter final and Ajla Tomljanovic in the final and in Strasbourg, where she upset Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal and in Caroline Garcia in the final.

She reached the quarter final at the Wuhan Open in September 2019 and the doubles final with her teammate Jelena Ostapenko in the Premier Mandatory China Open.
