Alexander Zverev battled past Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (13-11) 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 to get through to the quarter final at the Paris Rolex Masters in Paris Bercy. Zverev won his tenth consecutive match.
The first set went on serve in the first six games. Zverev got the first break to love in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. Mannarino converted his third break-back point in the next game to draw level to 4-4. Both players held their serve in the next games en route to the tie-break.
Zverev got the first mini-break to take a 3-2 lead, but Mannarino broke straight back to draw level to 3-3. Zverev got his second mini-break to earn two set points at 6-4. Mannarino got the mini-break back to draw level to 6-6. Zverev did not convert three set points at 8-7, 10-9 and 12-11. Mannarino earned two set points at 8-9 and 10-11, but Zverev fended them off before sealing the tie-break 13-11 on his fifth set point.
Mannarino got an early break in the first game of the second game. Zverev broke straight back to draw level to 2-2. Mannarino broke for the second time to open up a 4-2 lead. Zverev broke straight back to draw level to 4-4. The next games went on serve en route to the tie-break.
Mannarino earned a double mini-break to race out to a 4-0 lead. Zverev won five consecutive points to take a 5-4.
Zverev saved a set point at 5-6 and won two consecutive points to earn a match point at 7-6, but Mannarino reeled off the final three points to seal the second tie-break 9-7.
Zverev got his only break of the third set in the ninth game after Mannarino made a volley error. The German saved a break point in the tenth game before serving out the win with an ace on his second match point after 3 hours and 1 minute.
The Hamburg native has extended his win-loss record to 5-0 in his head-to-head matches against Mannarino, including his wins earlier this year in the US Open and Cologne.
Zverev reached the quarter final in Paris Bercy fo the second time in his career.
