Two-time WTA champion Jil Teichmann cruised past US wildcard Shelby Rogers 6-3 6-2 securing her spot in the semifinal at the Top Seed Open in Lexington (Kentucky) without dropping a set in the whole tournment.
Rogers upset Serena Williams in the quarter finals after dropping the first set. The last time Williams lost a match after winning the opening set dates back to Miami 2016, when she was defeated by Svetlana Kuznetsova in Miami.
Both players traded breaks in the first two games of the first set. Teichmann broke for the second time in the fourth game to win the first set 6-3.
The second set started with two a trade of breaks. Teichmann broke twice to win the second set 6-2.
Jennifer Brady beat Coco Gauff 6-2 6-4 in 71 minutes in the second semifinal.
Brady lost her serve once and hit eight aces. She won all 14 points on her first serve and dropped four points in five service games.
In the opening set Brady opened up a 4-1 lead with a double break. Gauff pulled back one break for 2-4, but Brady broke again to win the first set set 6-2. Brady broke serve in the third game to take a 2-1 lead and held on her next service games to win the second set 6-4.
Both players earned eight break points in each match, but Brady earned four breaks, while Gauff converted just one chance.
Neither Teichmann not Brady have lost a set during the tournament en route to reaching the final.
