Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ATP and WTA have announced the cancellation of all tournaments until 31 July 2020.
The extended suspension therefore means that ATP 250 tournaments in Bastad, Newport, Los Cabos, Gstaad, Umag, Atlanta and Kitzbuehel will not take place, as well as the ATP 500 in Hamburg that was planned to begin on 13 July, immediately after Wimbledon. WTA tournaments that will be canceled include International tournaments in Bastad, Lausanne, Bucharest and Jurmala, while events in Karlsruhe and Palermo may be played at a later date.
“Due to continued uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to announce our decision to extend the suspension of the Tour,” said Andrea Gaudenzi, ATP Chairman, in a statement. “Just like tennis fans, players and tournament hosts all over the world, we share in the disappointment the Tour continues to be affected in this way. We continue to assess all of our options in an effort to resume the Tour as soon as it is safe to do so, including the feasibility of rescheduling events later in the season. As ever, the health and well-being of the tennis community and wider public remains our top priority in every decision we make.”
“We regret this is the case but will continue to be guided by medical experts for when it is safe and possible to return to WTA competition – said the women’s tour organization in a statement on its website. “We continue to monitor the situation closely and are hopeful to be back on the court as soon as possible”.
This decision also impacts the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony that was due to take place at the International Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island on 18 July will not go ahead as planned.
Further announcements regarding tournaments in August will be made by mid-June.
