Pablo Carreno Busta saves two match points to beat Jannik Sinner in Rotterdam

Pablo Carreno Busta fought past Jannik Sinner 7-5 3-6 7-6 after 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach the semifinal at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

Sinner and Carreno Busta won the same number of points (233), but the Italian player converted just 2 of his 14 break point chances.

Sinner saved a break point with a forehand winner in the opening set. The Italian player did not convert his backhand in the sixth game. The first set went on serve until the 11th game when Carreno Busta earned the break to win the opening set 7-5 after Sinner hit his forehand into the net.

Sinner saved a break point in the third game of the second set. The 2019 Next Gen ATP champion earned a total of five break points and converted his fifth chance in the eighth game after Carreno Busta hit a forehand long. Sinner served out the second set at love in the next game, as Carreno sent another forehand long.

Sinner brought up four break points in the first game of the third set, but Carreno Busta saved them to hold his serve. Carreno Busta broke serve at deuce in the second game to open up a 3-0 lead. Sinner broke back in the ninth game to close the gap to 4-5, as Carreno Busta served for the match at 5-3. Carreno Busta earned three match points at 0-40. Sinner saved them after two groundstroke errors from Carreno Busta and a forehand winner at 30-40. Sinner held his serve to draw level to 5-5. Sinner earned two match points at 6-4 in the tie-break, but Carreno Busta saved them with a serve and volley winner and closed out the match at 7-6 after Sinner hit a backhand wide.
