Jiri Vesely beat Egor Gerasimov 7-6 (7-2) 5-7 6-2 in Pune to win his first title since 2015, when he clinched his first ATP Tour title in Auckland.
The Czech player has become only the eighth player since 2013 to save match points in two matches against Ilya Ivashka and Ricardas Berankis en route to an ATP title.
Vesely converted two of his three break points and faced two break points.
Vesely earned the first break at love in the first game of the opening set. Gerasimov broke straight back in the second game. Both players held on their serve in their next games setting up a tie-break. Vesely sealed the first set 7-2 after a forehand error from Gerasimov.
Gerasimov dropped just five points in six service games in the second set and earned the break in the 11th game, when Vesely made a forehand wide. The Belarusian player hit three winners in the 12th game to seal the second set 7-5.
Vesely dropped four points in his service games and broke serve in the second game of the third set with a return winner. The Czech player closed out the match with three winners.
Vesely will reach the top 75 for the first time since July 2018.
“I have to be realistic. I had a lot of luck in the week, saving six match points across tow matches in a row. I think that happens once in a lifetime, maybe, you never know. Two matches in a row, especially in the quarter finals and in the semifinal. I am very happy for this week. I have been working hard to be with a trophy again”,said Vesely.
