The Swiss government has decided to dedicate a Swiss commemorative 20 francs coin to 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. The tennis legend is the first living Swiss with a commemorative coin. The date of issue is 23 January 2020 and the pre-sale began on 2nd December 2019. A 50 franc gold is ready to be minted in May 2020. For the first time in history Swissmint is deciding a Swiss commemorative coin to a living person.
The coin features Roger hitting hi strade-mark one-handed backhand.
In April 2007 Swiss Post issued a one-franc stamp to celebrate Federer’s career.
Federer is the perfect ambassador for Switzerland. There is no other Swiss person in the world as well known as Roger Federer. He holds the most Grand Slam men’s singles titles with 20 and has won 103 ATP singles titles.
Outside the tennis court Federer set up a foundation to support financial aid projects for children. He was named the Swiss Unicef Goodwill Ambassador in 2006.
During 2019 Federer lifted a Masters 1000 title in Miami and won three more trophies in Dubai, Halle and Basel. He wasted two match points in the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic.
