Jannik Sinner has revealed his plans for the first half of the 2020 season, which will start in Australia at the Canberra Challenger before his debut at the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.

Sinner will return to Europe next February to play three indoor tournaments in Montpellier, Rotterdam and Marseille. In March the 18-year-old Italian player will make his debut in the “Sunshine Double” tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. He will then return to Europe to play in the tournaments of clay swing in Monte-Carlo, Munich, Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros.

Sinner started the year ranked world number 553 and reached his career high as world number 78 at the end of the 2019 season. The Italian teenager won three ATP Challenger titles in Bergamo, Lexington and Ortisei and advanced to Antwerp semifinal as a 18-year-old wildcard. He became the youngest ATP Tour semifinalist since Borna Coric in Basel 2013. At the Rome Internazionali d’Italia Sinner saved one match point against Steve Johnson in ATP Masters 1000 debut as wildcard before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. Sinner lost to Stan Wawrinka in the first round in his debut Grand Slam tournament at the US Open. Sinner won the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan beating Alex De Minaur in the final. The player coached by Riccardo Piatti and Andrea Volpini reached the semifinal in the ATP Challenger in Mouilleron Le Captif and scored his first ATP 500 win in Vienna.

Sinner has joined an exclusive “club” of only four 18-year-old players, who have managed to finish the season inside the top 80 in the ATP Rankings since 2000. Rafael Nadal was the first to reach the top 80  as under 18-year-old player twice in 2003 and 2004. Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic joined Nadal in their final under 18 season in 2005. Twelve years later Denis Shapovalov entered the club in 2017 when he reached the semifinal at the Rogers Cup on home soil in Montreal and the fourth round at the US Open.
