Daniil Medvedev has said he doesn’t feel invincible despite thrashing Cameron Norrie 6-3 6-1 in 55 minutes in Shanghai.
The US Open finalist cruised past the Brit with the loss of four games as he booked his place into the third round of the Shanghai masters.
There were three breaks of serve from the Medvedev having not faced any during the contest to set up a last 16 clash with Vasek Pospisil.
Despite recording his 55th win of the season though, the 23 year-old has said that he doesn’t feel invincible, “I don’t feel invincible, because I still lost some matches,” the Russian told atptour.com.
“If I would have won, let’s say, five tournaments in USA that I played, then I would tell you, ‘Yeah, maybe I am.’ I’m trying my best to keep the form I have.
“It’s really not easy, because as soon as you relax a little bit, the results will start to fall. That’s why I’m trying not to relax. I’m practising as hard as I can and playing my best in the tournaments also.”
Next for Medvedev is Vasek Pospisil after the Canadian recorded back-to-back wins over Diego Schwartzman and Joao Sousa respectively.
Other players into the last 16 in Shanghai include Hubert Hurkacz, who knocked out Gael Monfils 6-2 7-6(1) and Nikoloz Basilashvili who defeated Benoit Paire in three sets.
Tomorrow will see the start of Novak Djokovic’s title defence against Denis Shapovalov while the match of the day is Felix Auger-Aliassime facing Stefanos Tsitsipas.
