Dayana Yastremska powered past 13th seed Johanna Konta 6-3 6-2 in Toronto to reach the second round at the Rogers Cup.
The Ukrainian broke on four occasions as she gained revenge for her Eastbourne defeat to the Brit to make the second round.
It was another disappointing loss for Konta though as she couldn’t control the match from a break up in the opening set.
There were also wins on day one for 2015 champion Belinda Bencic and Elise Mertens as the road to the US Open begins.
Although Yastremska won the match, it was a slow start from the 19 year-old as Konta’s serve was firing in the early stages.
It was quite the opposite for Yastremska though as Konta read her serving patterns well to break in the third game to love.
After acquiring a 2-1 lead, there was not much else that went right from the Brit as there was a lot of tentative shot-making, which allowed the powerful Ukrainian back into the match.
A hard-fought break back was secured on the fifth attempt as the world number 33 looked comfortable on the big stage in Toronto.
There were less errors and more precision from Ukrainian as she ensured she was dominating rallies from inside the baseline.
Another break to love secured the opening set as Konta needed to find a way to get ahead of Yastremska in the rallies.

It was more of the same in the second set from Yastremska, who took up some aggressive returning to punish the former grand slam semi-finalist.
Two consecutive breaks at the end of the second set was enough for the Ukrainian as it was another frustrating day at the office for the world number 14.
As for the talented teenager, she will face either former world number one Victoria Azarenka or Washington finalist Camila Giorgi.
2015 Champ Bencic Progresses
2015 Toronto champion Belinda Bencic made the second round with a comfortable 6-2 6-1 demolition of Russian qualifier Anastasia Potapova.
The Swiss hit the ball cleanly as she fired winner after winner past her good friend in 63 minutes as she set up a meeting with Polona Hercog or Julia Goerges.
There was also a 3-6 6-3 6-1 win for Elise Mertens over Aliaksandra Sasnovich to ensure that she was the one facing Serena Williams on Wednesday evening.
