Bianca Andreescu has praised her incredible year so far as she looks ahead to her Toronto Quarter-Final with Karolina Pliskova.
The Canadian has had quite the 2019 so far, having won her first premier mandatory event in Indian Wells in March beating Angelique Kerber.
As well as the incredible week in California, Andreescu has managed to beat a top 10 player on five occasions this season.
Yesterday was the fifth win over a top 10 after topping Kiki Bertens in a three set thriller to reach the last eight at her home tournament in Canada.
Speaking after her win, Andreescu reflected on her season and spoke about her expectations as well as goals for the remainder of 2019, “I had zero expectations going into this. I was just really happy to be back on court,” the Canadian said in her press conference.
“I can’t complain right now, so maybe I should just have zero expectations and everything will be fine. What I’ve accomplished this year has been a dream come true.
“I would say my goals for the end of the year would have to be to break the Top 10. I really believe that I can do that. And play in the WTA Finals.”
Although she hasn’t played since Roland Garros as she struggled with injury for most of the European swing of the tour, Andreescu is not surprised about winning three matches this week.
That’s right, the Canadian believes in herself and believes her confidence of winning matches have helped her to rediscover some form this week, “Being off for that long and coming into the Rogers Cup and getting into the quarterfinals means so much to me,” Andreescu stated to the WTA website.
“But at the same time, I’m not surprised [to reach this stage] because I’ve been playing a lot of matches, especially at the beginning of the year. So I gained a lot of experience from that. And this time off actually really helped me. I figured a lot of things out and it’s showing on the court.”
There is no doubt that Andreescu is one of the in-form players of 2019 and when fit can take on any player in the world with her variety and consistency.
The 19 year-old will hope to continue her run when she aims for a sixth top 10 win this year against Karolina Pliskova in the Toronto Quarter-Finals.
