Kerber’s challenge

Since triumphing on Centre Court last year, Kerber is yet to win another title. Fortunately, the defending champion has managed to regain some of her momentum at Eastbourne. Reaching the final before losing in straight sets to Pliskova.

“I’m feeling good. I played good matches against good opponents. I get my rhythm back, the match rhythm. That’s important for me to have the confidence when I played the matches.” Said Kerber.

Unfortunately for the German, she has been handed a brutal draw with many potential threats standing in her way. She could play Maria Sharapova in the third round followed by Serena. Then if all goes according to the seedings, she could play top seed Barty in the last eight.

“It’s nothing new for me, to be honest. It is right now the first round that’s important. What’s in the second, third, fourth, whatever, it doesn’t matter right now.” She explained.
“For me, the most important thing is to play the first round, then looking ahead day by day. I mean, anything can happen, especially in the Grand Slams.”

Kerber starts against compatriot Tatjiana Maria.
