Sloane Stephens has remained happy and upbeat despite her convincing Quarter-Final exit at Roland Garros.
The American was outplayed today as she crashed out of the last eight at Roland Garros to Johanna Konta 6-1 6-4 in 70 minutes.
Many had picked Stephens to reach the final yet again this week but she couldn’t handle the in-form Brit as she now has a 3-0 losing record against her opponent.
Despite the loss though Stephens had remained positive and says that it was a successful tournament in Paris, “Yeah, I think a lot to be proud of and happy about. We still have a lot of tennis to play and the rest of the year,” Stephens admitted.
“Yeah, definitely moving in the right direction. Obviously from the beginning of the year till now has made huge improvement. Just got to keep the momentum going in the right direction to make sure that, yeah, I allow myself to have more success and more results.”
As for the match today, the American praised Konta and especially her serve as the Brit went on a streak of 18 consecutive points on serve in the second set, “She was serving really well. I mean, there is not much you can do when someone is playing like that,” Stephens said.
“She definitely played her game today. Yeah, just wasn’t meant to be. I didn’t get a chance to really get into the match, but sometimes that happens.”
Next for the world number seven is some recovery back in America before she starts her grass court season in Eastbourne just before Wimbledon.
After a poor Wimbledon last year, Stephens will be looking to gain more ranking points ahead of her favourite part of the year back in America later this year.
