Sofia Kenin is aiming to win a grand slam and be world number one after having a positive start to the 2019 season.
The American has climbed up twenty spots in the world rankings since the start of the season as she now sits at 36 in the world.
It has been a season which has seen her reach a final in Acapulco and winning the title in Hobart as she continues to make waves on the WTA tour.
However Kenin isn’t looking to stop her progress as she has a grand slam title in her sights, “The next goal is to win a Grand Slam,” Kenin said in an interview with wtatennis.com. “I really want to become No.1 in the world. I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am.”
The American also explained that her fiery side has contributed to her great success over the past six months, “I’m very focused, I’m very aggressive,” Kenin explained.
“I’m going to stay out there for hours if I have to – I’m not going to let you just beat me. There have been so many matches in my career that I don’t know how I’ve pulled off. The fact that I never gave up got me through.”
At only the age of 20 Kenin is already showing why she has the potential to be a regular top 10 player, even though there is big depth on the WTA side the American has showed her fans why she can break through.
Next for Kenin is Fed Cup, where she excelled last year producing two exceptional performances in the USA’s 3-0 defeat to the Czech Republic in Prague.
Kenin will join Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula and Jennifer Brady as they look to stay in the World Group against a Switzerland side which is without Belinda Bencic.
The tie will take place in San Antonio on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of April.
