Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz could be set to return to Wimbledon in July after the doctors approve his return to training.

The 28 year-old gave an update on his progress on Instagram Live as he hasn’t played a competitive match since the 2017 challenger event.

After having another knee surgery last year, hope had dipped for the former world number 14 as he had to delay his return to the tour.

However the Pole revealed that he went to see the doctors in Poznan on Thursday and he revealed that he recieved the green light to start training again.

After a small operation on Monday, Janowicz will return to training and will start practicing again next month. Preparation will begin in Poland and Austria as he looks to return to competitive action in June or July of this year.

Should all go smoothly, the Pole will return to Wimbledon this year, six years after losing to Andy Murray in the semi-finals.

The Pole will have a protected ranking of 120 in the world, which will allow him to enter certain tournaments although there is a risk that Janowicz could have to qualify for the event.

A lot has changed since 2013, with Janowicz having new priorities as he has become a father of a baby boy and will hope to use this as motivation to return to his best.
