US seventeen-year-old Amanda Anisimova made a winning start at the Miami Open with a 6-4 6-3 win over German Andrea Petkovic in just one hour and a hour in the opening round.

Amanda Anisimova, the youngest of five teenagers in the top 100 of the WTA Ranking, earned her first break point chances at 2-1 before getting her only break of the opening set at 4-3, when Petkovic made a double fault. The US teenager served out the first set easily in the 10th game.

Anisimova went up an early break at the start of the second set to take a 1-0 lead. Petkovic earned three break points in the fourth game, but Anisimova saved them to hold her serve at deuce before breaking serve for the second time at 15 to open up a 4-1 lead after a double fault from Petkovic.

Petkovic saved a match point at 1-5 and pulled one break back in the eighth game for 3-5, but Anisimova closed it out on her fourth match point with a break in the ninth game setting up a second round match against Anett Kontaveit from Estonia.

Anisimova will be looking to score her second win against a top 20 this year after beating Aryna Sabalenka at the Australian Open.

Chinese wild card Wang Xiyu upset 2016 Olympic champion Monica Puig 6-3 6-1. Wang broke twice to open up a 4-0 lead. Puig pulled one break back, but Wang held her next service games to seal the first set 6-3. The Chinese player broke three times to cruise through to winning the second set 6-1.
