Former doubles world number one Sania Mirza is excited for her return to tennis after giving birth to her son.
The Indian gave birth to her son, Izhaan, six weeks ago and can’t wait to get back on the tennis court as a mother. The former doubles world number one is looking to join Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Tatjana Maria as a tennis mother as she realises health is a priority, “I can’t wait to start playing again,” Mirza said to the Times of India.
“Tennis is in my blood. It’s just that priorities change when you’re expecting. You want to have a healthy baby, you want to be healthy.”
The 32 year old hasn’t played since the China Open 2017 but is excited to returning to the tour soon. However the five time grand slam champion realises that she needs to take her time, “I’m a perfectionist, anything I do I want to do it properly,” the Indian stated.
“I would like to come back and compete at the level I competed at. I want to be the best mother [and] best player I can be.”

Even though Mirza won’t be ready, the WTA season is already getting closer with 12 more days until the first WTA action of the 2019 season.
