World number one Simona Halep is aiming to win Wimbledon in 2019 after she reveals plans to start the season without a coach.
The Romanian has had a stellar 2018 season which saw her win three titles which included a first grand slam title at Roland Garros. As well as this, Halep also proved her dominance at the top of the world rankings as she only spent four weeks as world number two.
This magnificent year finished with Halep finishing top of the Porsche Race To Singapore standings for the second consecutive year.
However Halep was dealt a big blow a few weeks ago after it was announced that her coach for four years Darren Cahill will not be coaching her in 2019 due to family commitments.
The Australian worked on Halep’s mental strength and because of him Halep is the dominant player that she is now.

As a result of the news the 27 year-old has decided to start the year without a coach and not rush in finding a new coach, “I thought about it and I will not have a coach in the following period,” Halep explained to Romanian Press.
“I want to go to some tournaments on my own and we’ll see how that goes.”
It will be interesting to see how Halep can cope as we’ve seen over the past six months that even with Cahill by her side she can be mentally fragile and vulnerable.
As for next season’s goals, the world number one has made Wimbledon her top priority for next season. The Romanian was eliminated in the third round of this year’s Wimbledon by Su-Wei Hsieh in a grand slam classic.
However Halep has made it her aim to win Wimbledon in 2019 and win her second grand slam title of her career, “I hope it goes well, I want a new Grand Slam trophy, it’s a goal every year,” stated Halep.
“I won French Open, now Wimbledon is the goal. I am confident it will be a good year even if it could be tougher to start because in the late end of the season I did not play too many matches.”
The world number one is currently recovering from a back injury and will be hoping to recover for the Australian Open in mid-January, “If the back injury gets solved, I will be able to work,” said Halep.
Simona Halep isn’t scheduled to play any tournaments in the first week of the season.
