It appears that Elena Vesnina’s lengthy absence from the tour was entirely because of injury after the Russian confirmed that she is expecting her first child.
The three-time doubles grand slam champion uploaded a photo of her on Monday with a visible baby bump. The photo was captioned with the hashtag ‘mumtobe.’ It is unknown what the sex of the baby is or when it is due. Vesnina married Pavel Tabuntsov in November 2015.

It is unknown as to what the future holds for Vesnina’s tennis career. The 32-year-old hasn’t played on the tour since the French Open in May. Where she lost in the first round of both the singles and doubles draws. In recent months the Russian has been struggling with a knee injury. Nevertheless, she is still ranked in the world’s top 10 in the doubles at 10th.

During her career, Vesnina has won 22 titles on the WTA Tour. Three in singles and 19 in doubles. At the 2016 Rio Olympic Games she won a gold medal alongside Ekaterina Makarova.
Earlier this week, Martina Hingis also announced that she was pregnant on her 38th birthday. Hingis, who retired from the sport last year, married former sports physician Harry Leemann in July.
