23 time grand slam champion, Serena Williams has spoke out on her US Open controversy for the first time in an interview with Australian television.
The American spoke Australia’s ‘The Project’ as she spoke out for the first time on her game penalty that she received for breaking three code violations during the US Open final. The first code violation was for Coaching and Williams still sticks by her claims that the violation made by Carlos Ramos was based on sexism, “I just don’t understand … if you’re a female, you should be able to do even half of what a guy can do,” Williams explained to Lisa Wilkinson of ‘The Project.’
“He (Mouratoglou) said he made a motion, I don’t understand what he was talking about. We’ve never had signals,” Serena said about her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The statement made by Serena seems to oppose what her coach said straight after the defeat to Naomi Osaka when speaking to ESPN, “I’m honest, I was coaching. I mean, I don’t think she looked at me so that’s why she didn’t even think I was. But I was like 100 percent of the coaches on 100 percent of the matches.”
It will be interesting to hear what else is to come from the saga, although the successful tennis player has still not apologised for her aggressive behaviour to Mr. Ramos, which included her calling the Portuguese umpire a thief and a liar.
