Two-time grand slam champion Garbine Muguruza has hit another blip in her preparations for the US Open after withdrawing from this week’s Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Muguruza, who was set to play Anastasija Sevastova in the second round, has pulled out of the event due to an ongoing arm injury. Last week the Spaniard also withdrew from the Silicon Valley Open in San Jose due to pain in her right arm. Muguruza reached the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup last year. Her best ever performance at the Canadian Premier 5 event.

“Unfortunately I am still recovering from my arm injury from last week,” Muguruza said in a statement published by wtatennis.com. “I did everything I could to try and play here but unfortunately I am not ready and need a little bit more time. I will miss playing here and look forward to coming back to Montreal in the future.”

The former world No.1 hasn’t played on the tour since her shock loss to Alison Van Uytvanck in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships. Her win-loss record for this year currently stands at 24-12 with her only title occurring at the Monterrey Open in Mexico.

“It has been a very tough season. I am looking forward to the tournaments that are in front of me.” Muguruza told espn.com earlier this week.

With the US Open set to get underway on August 27th, the 24-year-old is hoping to make a return next week at the Western and Southern Open in Cinainatti. Muguruza will be the defending champion at the tournament.

Replacing Muguruza in the Montreal draw will be 2016 Rio Olympic champion Monica Puig. The Puerto Rican fell in the second round of qualifying to American world No.124 Caroline Dolehide on Sunday. Puig will be seeking her 10th win of the season when she takes on Sevastova in the second round.

The winner of the Puig-Sevastova clash will take on German 10th seed Julia Goerges in the last 16. Goerges dismissed Czech qualifier Lucie Safarova 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, on Tuesday with the help of 14 aces. Dropping just seven points behind her first serve.
