Three-time former champion Novak Djokovic breezed through to the second round of Wimbledon after registering a quick-fire 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Tennys Sandgren of the United States on Tuesday. The former World No. 1 was in absolute control of the match right from the word go as he exhibited the kind of tennis, which had made him the champion on three previous occasions.

As Djokovic was in full flow, Sandgren was made to look like a mute spectator, who had no answer to his adversary’s solid game from the baseline. With Djokovic bossing the court, Sandgren failed to deliver, ultimately losing in an hour and 33 minutes in what turned out to be a one-sided affair on Court No. 1.

Djokovic got the early break of serve in the opening set as he broke Sandgren in the sixth game. The 12th seed was definitely making his mark in the contest as Sandgren was simply unable to match the Serbian superstar’s intensity from the back of the court. Djokovic’s venomous returns forced Sandgren into a string of errors as he failed to handle the mounting pressure before Novak sealed the deal in the ninth game.

As the encounter progressed, it looked like Djokovic had found Sandgren’s number. The Monte Carlo resident broke at the first time of asking and was certainly performing like a thorough professional. Djokovic then secured the double break of serve courtesy of a lovely return serve and a clever volley. A love hold in the following game gave Djokovic two sets to love lead over his rival. Djokovic looked really good on the court, more confident than anybody had seen him in recent times.

Again, in the third set, Djokovic broke Sandgren immediately, consolidated, and looked like a man in a rush. Sandgren was taking the pace off from the ball and it was semi-working, extending the points but not to the extent that he could win them. An ace took Djokovic to within two games of round two. Djokovic broke again in the seventh game before sealing victory with a love game, including an ace and a service winner.
