Reigning Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki eased into the second round of Wimbledon on Monday.

Wozniacki, who has never done well at the All England Club, was in her elements throughout the contest as she needed only 59 minutes to destroy Varvara Lepchenko of the United States at the home of tennis. Showing remarkable consistency from the baseline, Wozniacki dictated the points with her wide variety of strokes as she eventually coasted to a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over her round 1 challenger.

Second seed Wozniacki was off to a flier in the match, cruising through the opening set with the minimum of fuss in just 25 minutes. Wozniacki was hitting the ball really nicely, while Lepchenko was barely striking it. In fact, the errors flew thick and fast from Lepchenko’s racquet as she could only win a total of 14 points in the entire set. On the other hand, the Dane stamped her authority by completely dominating the proceeding on the turf, winning 28 points to serve out a bagel to her American opponent.

After her dazzling performance in set No. 1, Wozniacki made the worst possible start to the second as she lost her serve in the opening game. However, after that odd game, it was back to normal for Wozniacki as she broke back immediately to force things back on serve.

And even though Lepchencko played much better tennis in the second set, Wozniacki was just too good on the day as she won the next three games to gain a 5-2 lead. Lepchenko then delayed the inevitable by holding on to her serve in the following game, but Wozniacki couldn’t be denied for too long as she comfortably served out the match to claim quite an impressive victory on Centre Court.
