The Wimbledon committee are set to decide on if Serena Williams will be seeded for Wimbledon as the Men’s seedings are all but confirmed.
Serena Williams has caused debate over the past few months as many people believe that the 23 time grand slam champion should be seeded for grand slam events. The American returned to tennis for the first time in March since having her first child. Since her return many people believe she should have a protected seeding as returning from pregnancy is much different than returning from injury. There is an argument to give her a seeding as she is a legend of the sport and deserves one however some believe she doesn’t deserve one as she should earn her way back to the top like everyone else.
The other counter argument is that when Victoria Azarenka returned from pregnancy last year, she did not receive a protected seeding, so why should Serena receive one? Well, we should find out what Wimbledon’s approach is by tomorrow as the Committee will have a meeting to decide Serena’s fate. Last month the All England Club said that they would consider giving her the top seed. Only time will tell as both Men’s and Women’s seeds are set to be confirmed on Wednesday.
Men’s Seedings
Meanwhile the Men’s seedings are all but confirmed as defending champion Roger Federer is set to lead the seedings. The eight time champion lost his world number one ranking in Halle on Sunday when he was defeated in the final by Borna Coric. However due to the Wimbledon seeding formula, Federer is set to remain the top seed with the new world number one, Rafael Nadal being the second seed.
Here are the seedings, which will be confirmed on Wednesday:
