World No.8 Kevin Anderson is set to miss next week’s Barcelona Open due to a knee injury. The same injury forced his absence from the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston and from the Monte Carlo Masters this week.

Anderson is still scheduled to feature in Estoril and there is no suggestion that his participation in major tournaments such as Madrid, Rome, and the French Open is in doubt.

Anderson’s last appearance was in the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters, where he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Anderson has had a strong season to date, reaching three finals and winning one. He defeated Sam Querrey to win the New York Open. He was defeated in the title matches in Pune and Acapulco by Gilles Simon and Juan Martin Del Potro respectively. He has also reached two Masters 1000 quarter-finals in Indian Wells and Miami.

The one poor result for the South African was his defeat to Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the first round of the Australian Open.

After reaching the Top 10 for the first time in 2015, Anderson had an injury plagued 2016. 2017 saw him reach the US Open final and the Wimbledon quarter-finals, results that propelled him back into the Top 10 and saw his then coach Neville Goodwin win the ATP Coach of the Year Award for 2017. The pair subsequently parted ways at the end of the season and Anderson now works with Brad Stine.
