Stan Wawrinka has been seen training in Switzerland with the help of former coach Magnus Norman as he prepares for the clay court season. So the question is can the Swede revive Wawrinka’s 2018 season?
The three time grand slam champion posted a picture on his twitter, sparking the rumours that he had reunited with the Swede that brought him much success in the first place, Magnus Norman. These rumours according to Le Matin are true, which means Wawrinka will be working with Norman for a long period of time, which has already started in Switzerland where they have begun a 10 day training block.
So why would Wawrinka bring back Norman ahead of the clay court season? Well, it is clear that the Swiss powerhouse not only wants to remain pain-free after his knee surgery last October but he wants to return to winning form and there is no better man to help him achieve this than the man that helped him win the Roland Garros title in 2016.
The Swede also knows Wawrinka the best as he produced fantastic results not only physically but also mentally and tactically, which is what the 33 year old needs to revive his season. Besides, if there is one man who has the firepower to stop Nadal’s destruction to the Roland Garros title, it is Wawrinka and the Monte-Carlo resident will need to play the perfect match should he face Nadal on the clay.
So hiring Magnus Norman will make sure this happens and it can only be seen as a positive for Tennis as many people would like to see this clay court season have a hint of competitiveness about it. How long will this partnership last? Time will tell however it is good to see Wawrinka and Norman back together because they can do some serious damage to the rest of the ATP field as the Swede is more than capable of mending this wounded champion back together.
