Stan Wawrinka has acknowledged that his level has improved since returning from injury as he prepares for his Semi-Final in Sofia on Saturday.
The world number 15 has looked very impressive as he has defeated Martin Klizan and Viktor Troicki in comfortable fashion to reach the last four in Bulgaria. The multiple time grand slam champion has put his form this week down to his improved level of play, “I think my level is getting better. I’m serving and moving better and it’s a great win for me,” said Wawrinka.
“I’m enjoying my time, I’m fighting on the court and that’s the most important.” Wawrinka is chasing his 17th career title on the ATP World Tour and his first since he won the Geneva title nine months ago.
The top seed will play world number 129 Mirza Basic in the Semi-Finals and the Swiss maestro is only the second player that is in the top 100 left in the tournament. This is a golden opportunity for Wawrinka to gain some momentum heading into Rotterdam next week which is headlined by his Compatriot Roger Federer, who is chasing the world number one spot.
Wawrinka will play Basic at 6pm local time in the second Semi-Final, with the first Semi-Final taking place at 2pm between Marius Copil and Jozef Kovalik.
