Former world No.1 Novak Djokovic is back in the gym after undergoing a procedure on his elbow last week in Switzerland.

12-time grand slam champion Djokovic returned to the tour at the Australian Open after missing six months due to an elbow injury. He went out of the tournament in the fourth round following a loss to South Korea’s Hyeon Chung. Shortly after his defeat, the Serbian admitted that his elbow is still not 100%.

The ongoing pain has prompted the Serbian to recently undergo surgery on his right elbow, which the 30-year-old described as a ‘a small medical intervention.’ It was reportedly conducted at the Rennbahnklinik clinic in Muttenz. A facility that specializes in orthopaedics (the correction of deformities in the bones or muscles).

“There were many different opinions, different diagnoses, different suggestions. I took six months off hoping to come back fully recovered, but unfortunately I still felt pain.” Djokovic said in a statement.
“I agreed with my team that I would try different methods, after I finish in Australia, and a few days ago I accepted to do a small medical intervention on my elbow.
“It seems like I am on the good road now to full recovery.”

Less than a week after the procedure, he is back training. On Monday he uploaded a video of him in action. Along with the caption ‘A big thank you to everyone for the support I’ve received since Friday’s announcement. Looking forward to sharing my rehabilitation and progress!’ During the video he was seen wearing a protective layer over his right arm.

It is unclear as to if Djokovic will be ready in time for his next scheduled tournament. The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells will take place next month. The Masters 1000 event, who he has won on five previous occasions, will get underway the week commencing March 5th.

Djokovic is currently ranked 13th in the world.
