World No. 1 Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya has confirmed that the Spaniard is all set to make his comeback at the upcoming Australian Open.

Nadal, who’s not played any form of tennis, leave apart official ATP matches since November due to a right knee injury is recuperating well. He will test his knee in two exhibition events in Melbourne before confirming his participation in the year’s opening Grand Slam. However, former French Open champion Moya is confident that Nadal will be fully ready for the event in Victoria.

Moya said: “The two training sessions have been very positive after arriving late last night.

“We want to make a small adaptation to the weather and also to the track.

“Starting tomorrow, he will start playing training sets to try on and he will continue to do so in the coming days.

“Rafa is fine, with confidence and playing at a good level.

“And we are optimists. We think it will be fine to play the tournament, if nothing gets twisted or changed.”

The 31-year-old Majorcan had a splendid 2017 as he won an unprecedented 10th French Open title to become the first man to win a single Major on 10 different occasions. He further cemented his position as the best player in the world by claiming his third US Open crown in September before sealing the year-end No. 1 ranking at the Paris Masters.

But after managing to keep his arch-rival Roger Federer at bay from the top spot, Nadal’s right knee started to trouble him big time. His troubles kept on mounting as he was forced to pull out of the ATP Finals after his opening encounter to David Goffin before he delayed his comeback by opting not to play in his scheduled comeback tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Brisbane.
