Andy Murray completed successful hip surgery on Monday in Melbourne as he aims to be back for the grass court season.
The former World number one went to St Vincent hospital on Monday to undergo hip surgery, which was performed by Dr John McDowell.
The Brit has not played since his Quarter-Final loss at Wimbledon last season and had to pull out of the Australian Open due to the ongoing issue.
After his surgery the Brit said that he aims to return to the tour for the grass court season, “My plan is to be playing around the grass court season – potentially before then – but I’m certainly not going to rush anything.” He also added that his eldest daughter, Sophia has inspired him to return to the court as soon as possible, “One of the things I would like to do is play is until my eldest daughter is able to watch me and have a small understanding of what it is I’ve done for my living.”
Despite today’s surgery, the Brit remains optimistic that he can continue where he left off, when he makes his return to tennis, “The surgeon felt that my hip will be feeling better than it did a year ago. Obviously I was doing fine a year ago – I was ranked world number one a year ago.”
The next steps for Murray will be to start rehab and should everything go to plan, he should be able to start hitting tennis balls again in 8-14 weeks. Here is the Brit after his surgery:
