World No. 1 Rafael Nadal has revealed his frustration with his knee injuries while trying to enjoy water sports, his favorite pastime.
Reigning French and US Open champion has disclosed the problems he has faced over the years due to his troubled knees. His knee issues have forced him to completely stop taking part in any sort of activity related to water. Nadal, who was born on the Spanish island of Majorca is a devoted swimmer and enjoys snorkeling, but can’t stay under water for long hours because it could aggravate his knee injuries.
In recent memory Nadal pulled out of the ATP’s year-end championships in London because of the same knee problems and is currently recuperating in his home town of Manacor. He will be back in action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi scheduled for December 28-30, 2017.
Asked if he swims while vacationing during the off season, Nadal said: “Whenever I can I try to swim and snorkel, to do everything I can in the water. Sometimes I also do aquatic exercises, especially in case of injury, because everything you can do in the water is very important to recover well.”
The Spaniard added: “But I do not practice water sports regularly, at least now. It would not be good for my knees. I do not do water sports for health reasons, but in the future I would love to take it up again, of course.”
“Andy Murray came and used the boat with his team for a few days.”
