Bad luck has struck Spanish player Nicolas Almagro once again. He has undergone a second left knee surgery since June after hurting his meniscus at the French Open during his match against Juan Martin Del Potro, which sidelined him for two-and-a-half months.

Almagro achieved his career-high ranking at number 9 in 2011 and won 13 singles titles, but has now dropped to world number 151 in the ATP Ranking.

During the 2017 season, the Spanish player reached the quarter finals in Doha, where he lost to Andy Murray, and in Estoril. He also reached the second round at six tournaments. He was forced to withdraw from his second round matches at Rome Masters 1000 against Rafa Nadal and at Roland Garros against Juan Martin Del Potro due to knee injury problems.

“It’s a tough moment that you just by no means wish to dwell once more. It occurred once more and we are going to arise once more. New knee surgery and so we leave 2017. We need to consider different issues and we are going to continue fighting for our objectives. We will keep fighting for our goals. In 2018 we will start a few months later but we will try to be back at the top,” Almagro wrote on his official Instagram account.

During his career Almagro has reached the quarter finals of the French Open three times in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Losing each time to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. He was also a quarterfinalist at the 2013 Australian Open, where he was defeated by David Ferrer.
