Former World No. 6 Carla Suarez Navarro has said that the level of women’s tennis has improved immensely of late as she believes that not just the top players are competitive, but others are tough to beat as well.
Suarez Navarro, a resident of Barcelona thinks that women’s tennis has undergone a sea change in terms of competitiveness in recent times.
“The level of women’s tennis has improved a lot, lately. There were a lot of changes at the top of the WTA rankings, and I think it’s something very good for us, since we all know that it’s very open and in every tournament you have to be at 100% if you want to win,” said Navarro.
The Spaniard experienced a poor season in 2017 as she failed to win any title and slipped down to the 40th spot in the WTA rankings. But, the Las Palmas native admitted that Spanish women were proud of Garbine Muguruza’s Wimbledon triumph and her ascent to the top of the rankings.
She added: “The Spanish women’s tennis has always been a reference point in the world, and we want it to continue like this for many more years. There are very good girls and I am sure that they will give everything to fight for titles.”
