Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki has revealed that her fiance David Lee wants her to keep on playing tennis for the next 10 years. In fact, the former US Open runner-up has claimed that Lee’s recent retirement has not at all inspired her to hang up her racket. In fact, her new found success on the WTA tour has motivated her to continue playing tennis for many more years to come.
“No. He’s always said it’s completely up to me, how and when, so not really. He’d like me to keep playing for another ten years because he thinks coming out to watch tennis is so much fun. On the other hand, it’s my decision.”
The Danish superstar is planning to have a short schedule in 2018, something her good friend Serena Williams and Swiss great Roger Federer have employed to good effect in their careers. On being asked if Serena inspired her to make such a move, she replied: “Not so much. Serena is very special when it comes to tennis. She has her way of doing things which has worked fantastically for her, but she only plays 6-8-10 tournaments a year, so it’s a bit different for her.”
The former World No. 1 also explained the logic behind her decision to part ways with her hitting partner Sascha Bajin: “It’s been a good run, and we’ve done really well together. But I know he wants to be a coach at some point, and that’s not what I need on my team right now.”
She added: “I also think it would be good to get other types of balls back to work with, from some other types of hitting partners. They’re usually pretty good at keeping me on my toes. So tennis-wise, it’s fine with something new. We’ve had it good together, and I wish him all the best.”
