Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been praised by reigning Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton, who recently won his second consecutive Formula One World Championship was asked by the BBC in a recent interview if he felt pressure at all during the season.
Normally sports stars would give a straight forward answer to this question and relate it to their own sport. However the Brit had a surprising response to the question by praising Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. This is what he had to say:
“Pressure points. Weak points. You have to keep the pressure on and when the other shows no sign of weakness. That’s definitely difficult. Look at Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. At some point in the game, one will see a slight weakness in the other – even if just half a per cent. That’s what they try to capitalise on and which makes the difference and that’s really how it has been this year.”
It is interesting to hear these comments from Hamilton as you wouldn’t think that Formula One racing and Tennis would have similar champion qualities.
However it seems Federer and Nadal’s season has inspired other sports stars to possess and learn different mental qualities to help them become the best in their own sport.
Both Federer and Nadal have overcome great mental barriers to recover from injury and become the best two players in the world right now.
Roger Federer has won two grand slams and three masters 1000 events in 2017 while Nadal has won two grand slams and two masters 1000 events as well as becoming the world number one.
Federer will return to the Hopman Cup in Perth in 2018 while Rafael Nadal will start his season in Brisbane in January.
