Garbine Muguruza has claimed the ‘Personality Of The Year’ award at the Vanity Fair awards in Madrid.
The Spaniard had an awards ceremony and gala dedicated to her at the Vanity Fair awards as she claimed the prestigious ‘Personality Of The Year’ trophy.
Despite a fairly average first half of the season the 24 year old stepped up her game to claim the Wimbledon title in July and then became the first Spanish World Number One on the WTA tour since Conchita Martinez.
Muguruza said a few words once she collected the award ‘I always say that if you make sacrifices for what you want, it is always worth the rewards.’
Despite her success in Spain, Muguruza may never be accepted by some Spaniards for her residence being in Geneva and her also being born in Venezuela.
However the two time grand slam champion is proud to represent her country and remains a defiant Spaniard. Here she is accepting her award:

The next order of business for Muguruza is preparing for the start of the 2018 season, with her first tournament of the season will be in Brisbane.
