Victoria Azarenka is in a court battle with her former partner Billy McGee over their son, Leo. She will now be helped by an Israeli lawyer to help with her case.
The multiple grand slam champion last year had welcomed her son Leo into the World and returned to the WTA tour this year. Everything was going well for Azarenka until July 2017, when her partnership with partner Billy McGee had abruptly ended and McGee decided to enter court proceedings with the Beverly Hills. Mr McGee had decided to enter court proceedings as he feared that Azarenka would abduct their son, Leo. After looking at the documents, the court ruled that the child should return to Los Angeles and as a result kept the baby away from Azarenka.
Due to the complexity of the issue Azarenka will now turn to Israeli lawyer, Zeev Welner, who will argue Azarenka’s case in a court in Belarus soon. The lawyer will prepare damages claim as well as the actual case from the former partner of Azarenka. The Belarusian is expected to miss next week’s tournament in Cincinnati and also the US Open, the last grand slam of the season. If this is true the claim could accumulate a total sum of 10 million dollars.
The next hearing will take place in September.
