Andy Murray has announced his withdrawal from the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati as he continues to recover from his hip injury.

The current world number one suffered a hip injury at Wimbledon a few weeks ago and the tennis world has not seen him since and it looks like we may not see him for a while yet as he continues to recover from the injury. Today’s announcement also confirms that Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will once again be the top two seeds for a masters 1000 event. Here is what the Brit had to say on the his withdrawal:

Unfortunately I won’t be playing in Cincinnati as I continue my recovery,” Murray said. “I always enjoy playing there and I look forward to returning next year. I’m continuing to work hard on the court with the aim of being in New York.’

This will be disappointing news for Murray as he would like to have some tournament practice in his locker ahead of the final grand slam of the season. It has been a frustrating season and this has added to his woes. Should he miss the US Open he will join the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic on the injury list.

The Western and Southern Open starts next week.
