Number 1 seed Marin Cilic came back from one set down to beat Janko Tipsarevic 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 6-4 to reach the quarter finals at the Ricoh Open in s’Hertogenbosch. The Croatian player did not convert on his three break points at 6-3. Tipsarevic reeled off five points to win the first set tie-break by 8-6. Cilic bounced back by breaking twice in the fifth and seventh games to win the second set 6-2. Cilic got the only break in the third game of the third set to wrap it up by 6-3. Cilic won the eighth match in 10 head-to-head matches.
Cilic will face Vasek Pospisil, who was leading 7-6 (7-2) 4-2, as Alexander Dolgopolov was forced to withdraw from the match due to a knee injury. The first set went on serve until the tie-break, which Pospisil closed out by 7-2. The Canadian player earned the only break of the second set in the third game to open up a 4-2 lead.
Croatian giant Ivo Karlovic beat world number 150 Stefan Kozlov from the USA 6-4 6-1. The first set went on serve until the 10th game when Karlovic got the break to win the first set 6-4. In the second set Karlovic got a double break to race out to a 5-0 lead. He fired 9 aces and did not face any break points.
Karlovic will take on Russian qualifier Danil Medvedev, who beat Australia’s Thannasi Kokkinakis 6-3 7-6 (7-3). The first set was decided by an early break for Medvedev, who dropped just four points on his serve to close it out after 30 minutes. The second set went on serve without breaks and came down to the tie-break. Medvedev sealed it by 7-3 on the first of his three match points.
