Venus Williams has said that she dreams of competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. The star is currently 36-years-old, and will be 40 if she competes at the Olympics in Tokyo.

Speaking to CNN about her chances of featuring in Tokyo, Williams said “I’d love to. I’ve got to earn that spot and we’ll see where life takes me but, at this point in time, I’ve got plans on being there.

Williams first competed in the Sydney 200 Olympics, when she began just the second women to win gold in the singles and doubles during the same games. The elder Williams sister has a total of five medals. Four golds in singles and doubles, partnered with younger sister Serena, and one silver in mixed doubles partnered with Rajeev Ram.

William also shared her memories of her most recent appearance in the Olympics, at the Games in Rio de Janeiro last year, “It was crazy, I had an amazing experience,to be in Rio, to represent your country and to represent being a member of the world, that is the best part of the Olympics.

Should Williams feature at the Olympics in Tokyo, she will have the chance to stand alone as the most decorated women in tennis in terms of medals won if she picks up just one more. She currently shares that total with Great Britain’s Kitty McKane. Williams is currently a seven-time grand slam champion with five titles at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. The former World No.1 is also a former runner-up at the Australian Open and Roland Garros with a number of doubles titles won with Serena at all four slams.

The news that Williams has every intention of featuring in the next Olympics Games will no doubt relieve many of her fans, who would have worried that the veteran may have been eyeing retirement before 2020.
