Nick Kyrgios has spoken of his intentions to continue without a coach on the ATP Tour, at least for now.

The fiery Aussie was asked if he was thinking of hiring a coach by ESPN, and he had this to say “Ummm, no, no-one as of yet. I’ve been thinking about it. But I think where my game is right now is pretty good. “I think coming off one of my greatest wins last week against Djokovic, to do that without a coach is, I think, a great accomplishment.

A number of coaches and former players, including John McEnroe, have previously spoken of their interest in coaching the talented 21-year-old, but Kyrgios has mixed relationships when it comes to interacting with such support staff.

Kyrgios and former Australian Davis Cup Captain Patrick Rafter had a tenuous relationship during the former World No.1’s tenure.  However, Kyrgios gets along well with current Davis Cup Captain Lleyton Hewitt. The two are the only players in history to have won their first career meetings with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal.

Kyrgios has had a mixed start to the year, with an early defeat to Andreas Seppi at the Australian Open. He has however reached the semi-finals of both Marseille and Acapulco since then.

Kyrgios is scheduled to play in Indian Wells, and will face the winner of the match between a qualifier and Horacio Zeballos in the second round. Kyrgios enjoys a first round bye due to being seeded.

Kyrgios has few points to defend in Indian Wells this year, after losing to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round last year. However, he does have to defend semi-final points in Miami immediately after Indian Wells, so he will be looking to at least make a good start in California to take the pressure off of his run in Miami.
