World number one Andy Murray has revealed that he has survived a skin condition to lead the field at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Ahead of the ATP 500 event in Dubai this week Andy Murray has revealed that he had suffered a skin condition after the Australian Open. The 29 year old Brit suffered a major shock at the Australian Open when he was defeated by Mischa Zverev in four sets and has now revealed that the start of the season had been taking its toll on the three time grand slam champion.
Murray Said, “I was a bit sick for 10 days, a couple of weeks, after I got back from Australia, I had shingles, It’s not terrible, but it’s not great. I had to go easy for a little while, so I wasn’t able to push that hard in training when I got back into it. But I’m fine now and have been training flat out the last two weeks.”
It is good to see that Murray is now raring to go as he prepares to face Malek Jaziri of Tunisia in the first round of Dubai. Meanwhile the man who won the first grand slam of the year, Roger Federer, will be a potential semifinal opponent for the Brit and he has also seemed to solved any physical problems he had.
The 18 time grand slam champion said “Physically I had a bit of a problem with my leg, that was bothering me for basically ten days of the Australian Open for three days now I’m practicing at 100 percent, I’m a little bit tired because it’s the first time I’m actually pushing myself again, but because it’s fast-courts, best-of-three, I’ll be fine.”
Federer will be hoping that Dubai has similar conditions to the ones in Australia as he can use this to his advantage. Should this be the case Federer will go in as strong favourite ahead of the tournament.
Other headline acts involves defending champion Stan Wawrinka, Gael Monfils and Tomas Berdych. The tournament starts on Monday.
