Roger Federer is aiming to win the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart on grass from 10th to 18th August 2017 as he looks to make his come-back after being sidelined by a knee injury since the Wimbledon semifinal.
Federer has not won a single ATP title in a season ravaged by an injury. He will make his return on the court at the Hopman Cup in Perth in the build-up to the 2017 Australian Open. He will start the next season at the world number 16 in the ATP Ranking.
The organizers of the Mercedes Cup posted a video where Federer revealed his goal to win the tournament. In last year’s editon Federer was beaten by eventual winner Dominic Thiem in the semifinals.
Federer invited his fans to make a visit to Stuttgart.
“I am really working hard to get ready for 2017 and to play the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart in June. I hope you can be there and follow me. The last time I came really close, but not close enough to win the title and drive home in a nice Mercedes Benz. Hopefully I can do it in 2017”, said Federer.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion is currently training in Dubai with French player Lukas Pouille.
