Andrei Medvedev was appointed as the new Ukrainian Davis Cup captain for 2017. The 42-year-old former Ukrainian star, who will replace Mikhail Filima, will be the 10th UKrainian Davis Cup captain in history. Medvedev achieved the best results of his career on clay, the surface where he won eleven titles including three Masters Series titles in Hamburg in 1994, 1995 and 1997 and one in Monte-Carlo in 1994.
In 1999 Roland Garros final he was leading by two sets to love before André Agassi came back to win the match in five sets 6-1 6-2 4-6 3-6 4-6.
Medvedev, the best player in the history of indipendent Ukrane, played in every season between 1993 and 2001 except from 1994 and won 33 matches out of 43 including 22 in singles in the Davis Cup. He achieved the fourth place as career-high in the ATP Ranking.
He will make his debut in the 2017 Davis Cup against either Israel or Portugal in the second round of Europe/Africa Group I from 7th to 9th April
