The first day of the Kremiin Cup in Moscow featured just two matches. Lukas Rosol and Thomaz Bellucci advanced to the second round at this AT 250 Indoor tournament.
Rosol beat Gerald Melzer 7-5 6-2 in 64 minutes to score his 16th win this season. Melzer dropped his serve four times from the seven break point opportunities created by Rosol.
Rosol faced just one break point and and dropped just 13 points in 10 service games.
Melzer broke serve in the fifth game to 15 to build a 5-3 lead and served for the first set in the 10th game. Rosol broke back to love. The Czech player won the final four games of the first set including a break in the 12th game to wrap up the opening set 7-5. Rosol won 10 of the final 12 games including two breaks in the second set in the 4th and 8th games and dropped just four points on serve to clinch the second set 6-2.
Thomaz Bellucci beat young Turkish wild-card Cem Ilkel 7-5 6-1. The Brazilian player broke seven times. The first set was marked by seven breaks of serve. Bellucci went up a double break, Cem got one break back. The Turkish player broke for the second time to draw level. Bellucci broke twice more to take a 6-5 lead and served out on his fourth set point in the 12th game. Bellucci dominated the second set in which he broke three times and dropped just four points on serve to cruise through to 6-1.
