1. Andy Murray versus Juan Martin Del Potro
It is no surprise that the match which headlines the Davis Cup weekend would headline this list as well. These two players could not have had a more similar lead-up to this match. They both reached quarterfinals at the US Open and before that, they faced off in the Gold Medal match at the Rio Olympics. Murray won that match in four sets and took the gold medal home for Great Britain. This match is probably the most relevant data for this Davis Cup clash of the giants. They have gone through a lot of change since their previous matches, making the head-to-head not that relevant. This match in Glasgow will be played on indoor hard, making the surface faster than in Rio and at the US Open. It will be interesting to see what it does to the games of either player. It should give Del Potro less time to run around his backhand, but make his rocket forehands that much more effective and explosive. Murray will be playing in front of his home crowd, but also has to deal with the passing of his grandfather. This is the match that will start off the Great Britain – Argentina tie, and I personally can’t wait for this match, and for what our Ubitennis on-site writer, Adam Addicott will have to say on this match.
