World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has set his eyes upon continuing winning ways at the next week’s Rio Olympics as he eyes another podium finish for Serbia.
Djokovic has been on a roll this year, winning as many as seven titles including the Australian Open and French Open crowns. A premature Wimbledon exit did raise a few eyebrows, but the 29-year-old shunned them all by winning the last week’s Rogers Cup title without dropping a set.
His track record at the Olympics further accentuates his ‘favourite’ tag. Djokovic won the bronze medal in his Olympic debut in Beijing 2008 before narrowly missing out on an encore in London 2012. But, the Serb is taking nothing for granted this time around.
“I’m going to try to extract that positivity out of that huge attention and energy that will be directed into the Olympic Games and hopefully put myself in a position to battle for a medal,” Djokovic was quoted as saying by clubcall.com.
“It’s the biggest event in the history of the sport, so to be part of it is already a huge privilege and honour that I will cherish,” he added.
Besides the singles, Djokovic is also slated to compete in the men’s doubles event alongside countryman Nenad Zimonjic at the event that begins from August 6.
