The coach of Dutch No.1 Robin Haase, Mark de J., has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The arrest is in relation to the death of a Dutch businessman, Koen Everink, who was found stabbed to death on March 4th. De J was arrested at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam on Thursday morning. Haase had been playing in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 event, but is not taking part in the Miami Masters this week due to a knee injury.
When approached for comment by a Dutch news agency Haase, who is believed to have known the victim, said “I am shocked. I can’t say any more than that at the moment.
Haase also said “He was going to start a business again, and would soon have been traveling with another tennis player. No, I thought he had found his peace so I had no indications that he was being threatened or anything like that.”
Haase had seen his ranking dip outside the Top 100 in 2015, but has recently seen it stabilise within the Top 60. He is a former world No.33.
